We specialise in adventure-filled scenic flights, luxury charters into some of the most beautiful locations in New Zealand, hunting & fishing charters and the adventure-filled Heli Siberia; a helicopter – hike – jet boat day trip.

Henry Menzies
As the chief pilot at Backcountry Helicopters, Henry handles the majority of day-to-day flights, making him a probable choice for piloting Heli Siberia Experiences, hunting and fishing charters, and other commercial operations.
With extensive experience from various operations in New Zealand and Australia, Henry’s expertise spans diverse commercial activities. His deep knowledge of the local terrain and wildlife, coupled with his passion for the outdoors and hunting, enables him to create unforgettable experiences for our passengers.
Pete Spencer-Bower
Pete holds the roles of Director, CEO, and pilot within the Wanaka Helicopters group, under which Backcountry operates.
With Backcountry Helicopters, Pete assumes the role of a skilled commercial pilot, boasting experience from firefighting missions across Canada and New Zealand. His flight expertise extends to both commercial operations and helicopter instruction across various models. His love for hunting, fishing, and deep-rooted knowledge of the local region has earned Pete considerable respect as a pilot among all of the outdoor enthusiasts, hunters, and fishermen who fly with us.
