Driving Creek
Description
Driving Creek is a truly unique tourism operation in Coromandel that began as a grass-roots pottery in 1973, and offers immersive visitor experiences within a beautiful native forest and home to rare native species. We provide authentic experiences that take visitors on a journey and learn about the incredible story of Driving Creek's creation, the land's pioneering history and conservation initiatives.
We have things to do for everyone with three unforgettable experiences:
Railway Tours - A 1 ¼ hour railway journey to EyeFull Tower, traveling on New Zealand’s only mountain railway. The tour includes ten bridges and three beautiful tunnels as it winds through native forest to reveal stunning views across Coromandel Harbor. Rail passengers hear the story of Barry Brickell and how pottery, engineering, and conservation created this unique place and its experiences.
Zipline Tours (trading as Coromandel Zipline Tours) - An authentic 8-zipline canopy tour through native forest. A short train ride begins the experience and zipline across valleys between trees and platforms, finishing with a thrilling 200m zipline back to base. Tour guides tell the story of Driving Creek’s transformation from a degraded site of kauri logging and gold mining to a thriving hand planted native forest.
Wheel Throwing Pottery Classes - Visitors experience a 1.5-hour wheel throwing pottery class with a professional potter, in a place thriving with inspiration, innovation and old world values. With the option to have works created in the class glazed, fired and delivered.
